Coast Southwest Hosted California State Senator Ling Ling Chang

Ling Ling Chang at Coast Southwest

Keeping a dialogue open with legislators and regulators is an important part of being a responsible company in any industry, in our opinion. In the chemical distribution and ingredients formulation sector, it’s especially vital. It’s why we’re members of the NACD, for instance, and of the Chemistry Industry Council of California (CICC).

Coast Southwest Vice President Jillian Cimo is in charge of our industry and community outreach, guiding our involvement in efforts like the California You Be The Chemist Challenge®, and also serves on the board of the CICC.  Last week, she served as host of a special visit to our headquarters facility in Placentia, CA, by the California 29th Senate District’s representative, Senator Ling Ling Chang.

Fostering stronger relationships

The visit was arranged thanks to the work of Lauren Scott, manager of state affairs for the American Chemistry Council, Western Region, Sacramento, CA.   “The American Chemistry Council values fostering relationships between local industry and their elected officials,“ Lauren explained. “We wanted our senator to see first-hand how the business of chemistry benefits Senate District 29 as well as having positive economic impact on our entire state.”

“As a California assemblywoman and now as a state senator, Senator Chang has consistently demonstrated a special interest in furthering STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education,” said Jillian Cimo. “We share her commitment to promoting STEM education and careers for more of California’s young people.”

Senator Chang’s visit included a tour of the facilities and an exploration of the various services Coast Southwest provides its customers, with frank discussions about the importance of industry members and legislators working in tandem to support operationals safety, environmental concerns, and jobs in the Golden State.

“Senator Chang is very engaged with her constituents and feels strongly about representing them. We were honored that she came to our location to learn first-hand more about the companies in the business of chemistry in her district,” Jillian said. “The Senator was very receptive to learning about our local impact on job growth and the economy, as well as about the regulatory and legislative challenges our industry faces.”
