NACD has testified to Congress in favor of H.R. 908, which would extend the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) authority to implement the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards program (CFATS) for an additional 7 years.
As a member of NACD, we are obviously in full support of any considered initiative that helps protect the public. After 9.11, NACD became the first chemical trade association to mandate specific security measures for its members, and it continually reviews and assesses Responsible Distribution’s security measures to help safeguard against potential threats.
At the same time, NACD is making a stand against levying new IST regulations that could be detrimental to the industry, member companies and, most importantly, to the jobs the industry provides. Excessive regulation can often drive up costs and impede operations with little gain in safety or security
